Treatments

Routine Podiatry

Assessment and treatment of common foot and nail concerns, including fungal or thickened nails, ingrowing nails, athlete’s foot, corns and calluses. Suitable for adults and children who need treatment or general foot care. Appointments typically take around 30 minutes.

Diabetic Foot Assessment

A focused foot health check for people with diabetes, including circulation, sensation and overall foot condition. It helps identify potential problems early and reduce the risk of complications. The assessment is included in your initial appointment, and we recommend repeating it twice a year. Appointments typically take around 15 minutes.

Biomechanical Assessments and Treatment

An assessment of how your feet and lower limbs work when standing and walking. It’s suitable for anyone with foot, ankle or lower limb pain, or concerns about their gait. Treatment may include advice, padding, exercises, insoles, orthoses or custom-made devices where appropriate. It’s also suitable for children whose parents have concerns about their balance or walking as they develop. Appointments typically take around 45 minutes.

Podiatry Treatment

Ingrowing Nail Treatment and Surgery

Assessment and treatment of painful or recurring ingrowing toenails, and persistent nail infections. Depending on the problem, this may involve conservative treatment or minor nail surgery under local anaesthetic, with partial or full nail removal. After surgery, phenol is applied to prevent the nail growing back. Healing takes around 2 to 3 months, and follow-up appointments during this time are included. Assessment appointments take around 30 minutes; surgery takes around 1 hour.

Please note: you won’t be able to drive for 24 hours after nail surgery, so please arrange a lift home.

Verrucae Advice and Treatment

Assessment of suspected or persistent verrucae, with advice and treatment tailored to you. Suitable for adults and children with painful, persistent or troublesome verrucae. Appointments typically take around 30 minutes.

  • Salicylic acid (first-line treatment): a topical treatment that gradually breaks down the affected skin
  • Verrutop: an acid-based topical treatment applied directly to the verruca
  • Cryotherapy: a liquid cryogen treatment that freezes and destroys the verruca

Yes. Podiatry appointments are open to new patients as well as existing dental patients.

No. You can book for general foot care, or if there’s something you’d like a podiatrist to check. We also offer a basic 20-minute toenail trim.

Yes. Routine podiatry is suitable for both adults and children.

Your podiatrist will talk through your concerns, assess your feet and, where appropriate, provide treatment or recommend the next steps.

Please bring details of any medical conditions and medications. For a biomechanical assessment, it helps to bring the footwear you wear most, particularly shoes for work, walking or exercise. You may be asked to wear loose clothing or shorts so your lower limbs can be assessed.

Diabetes can affect the circulation and sensation in your feet (known as peripheral neuropathy). Regular checks help spot changes or potential problems early, such as areas of high pressure, so you can get the right advice to reduce the risk of complications.

If you have pain, swelling or tenderness in your foot, ankle, knee or lower limb, or a new or recurring injury such as plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendinopathy. Your podiatrist will assess how your lower limbs move and function, and discuss treatment and management options with you.

No. Verrucae are caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV), and in many people the immune system clears them naturally. If a verruca is painful, persistent, spreading or worrying you, treatment can help trigger a local immune response and remove or destroy the affected tissue.
